Dolmen Argentina-Graziadei
Salve (LE) - Marina di Pescoluse
Object Type: Dolmen
Staus: Present
Latitude: 39.83800
Longitude: 18.24738
Description: In the direction of the seaside, near a mound of stones, the Dolmen is situated on the left of the access to the beach resort ‘Maldive del Salento’. The whole structure is surrounded by natural vegetation and outcrops of rock. The megalith is made of a capstone made of three blocks with irregular thickness, supported by seven orthostates, four monolithic ones and others made of stacked up rocks. It has a hypogeum cavity dug in the rock. The access to the megalith leads directly to the small hypogeum cave, with semi-circular shape, dug in the boulder of rock. According to Professor Franco, who studied the structure in the 90s, despite having similarities with some other megaliths found in Sicily, Sardinia and on the island of Minorca, it must have been realised at a later age, perhaps in the Middle Ages. This could testify the continuance of megalithic models spread all over the Mediterranean.
