Dolmen di Torre Ospina (Specchi/Ospina/Lo Spino)
Racale (LE)
Object Type: Dolmen
Staus: Present
Latitude: 39.96600
Longitude: 18.06305
Description: The dolmen included in a dry wall in a plot full of outcrops of rock, has a fracture that splits the capstone in half, which has collapsed inside the room. The access of the cell is to the South. Perhaps, according to Malagrinò, the original opening was to the East and it was closed by the dry wall.  Only three of the four original orthostates are left standing (North, South and West); their surfaces have black scabs on them. The West orthostate has a quadrangular shape; the other two are rectangular.
Condition: Bad
Dimension: Ortostato Nord: m 1.96 m 1.53 x m 0.26/0.40; Ortostato Ovest: m 1.44 x m 1.47 x m 0.14/0.19; Ortostato Sud: m 2.10 x m 1.27 x m 0.16/0.27; Lastra di copertura: m 1.57 x m 0.52 x m 0.14; Dimensione cella: m 2.15 x m 1.38.
Direction: Apertura rivolta a Sud
Historical Notes: Discovered by C. Piccinni in 1962 near the Torre Ospina (Lo Spino), the monolith was described with an irregular rectangular capstone, supported by four orthostates that raise it up to 1.35m from the ground level. The damaging of the dolmen and the purloining of certain parts by searchers of acchiature is documented.
Legal Condition: Subject to restrictions with deed of 20/07/1989, L. 1089/1939.
